ABOUT VEAL THOM
Phnom Veal Thom — Cambodia's best-kept secret. A massive mountain grassland tucked inside the country's largest National Park. No roads, no crowds—just you, the jungle, and the most incredible sunrise in Ratanakiri.
- Altitude: The grasslands sit at an elevation of roughly 700 to 800 meters above sea level. This higher altitude is why the climate feels "cooler" and the vegetation changes from dense jungle to open savannah.
- Landscape: It is a 1,000-hectare natural "hole" in the jungle. While the rest of the park is primary rainforest, Veal Thom is a vast expanse of montane grassland.

- Province: Ratanakiri Province, Northeastern Cambodia.
- District: Tavang District.
- Setting: It sits in the heart of Virachey National Park, near the "tri-border" area where Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam meet.
HOW TO GET THERE?
Stage 1: The Self-Drive to the Gateway (Banlung to Taveng)
- Starting Point: Banlung City (Ratanakiri Capital).
- The Route: Head North toward Taveng District on a mostly paved road that turns into red dirt.
- Distance: Approximately 50 km (about 1.5 to 2 hours).
- The River Barrier: You must reach the Sesan River, where you and your bike (if allowed) or just you will cross via a local ferry/boat.
